Caminetto: Partially Sandblasted Carved Flower (06) (AT) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-011-0908
The Caminetto workshop was founded by Luigi Radice and Giuseppe Ascorti in the late 1960s, the pair establishing the brand after a lengthy tenure with Castello. Caminetto pipes quickly became a success, their unique design language cementing them as one of Italy's most respected makers. They've become especially renowned for their craggy rustications, with many of their pipes showcasing highly textural carving across their stummels. Caminetto's Flower shape is a singular, signature design whose outline is firmly rooted in the Cauldron shape, a modern Italian classic that Caminetto is equally talented in rendering. The transition here is wide, with ample space to drape a digit if necessary, and it gives way to a tapering shank that's here met by a similarly tapering stem of demurely downturned black acrylic. Up front, the bowl boasts a supple, rounded shaping through its lower walls, forming a pinched taper to the waist before flaring out expressively to the rim: resulting in in impressive height and plenty of plump contours to appreciate. Compared to the Cauldron, the Flower's lower walls are carved with a pattern of stylistic petals, and these petals further emphasize the waist thanks to the arcing channels that define their outline. Here, the stummel is dressed in a crisp partial sandblast and a dual stain, with the blasted upper walls of the bowl displaying a deep ruby tone, while the alternating smooth and sandblasted petals of the lower bowl showcase a verdant green.
