Castello: 'Castello' Bent Egg (KKKK)
Product Number: 002-386-3765
One of Castello's more Freehand-like designs, this deep-chambered bent Egg corresponds to the "293" on the Italian workshop's standard shape chart. With its extra stout transition, uniquely undulating rim and shank end, and generous 3/4-to-full bend, it also features one of their most iconic silhouettes. It's considered one of their "fancy" shapes, indicating the presence of flared shanks or ferrules, and often waving, rolling rims and shank faces. Following the shape's well-defined transition, a curvaceous, flaring shank and high-kicking stem wrap the piece up, the shank face's concave shaping matching the rim's waviness. The rich walnut stain highlights a stunning array of birdseye along the flanks, separated by a lane of cross grain running down the center of the bowl's fore.- Andrew Wike
