Castello: Collection Great Line Bent Dublin (71) (1982)
Product Number: 002-386-4203
Castello is renowned in pipedom for aging their briar for 10 years before crafting them, certainly one of the reasons the Italian workshop has such loyal, devoted fans. With the 1982 Collection Great Line pipes, the briar blocks were set aside that year, thus aging and curing for more than 30 years, making this bent Dublin extraordinary.
A stunning example of Castello's craftsmanship and intuitiveness, this towering pipe boasts a robust demeanor, presenting an impressively deep tobacco chamber contained within a nearly three-inch tall bowl which is also stout. Paired to a gently arcing oval shank and stem configuration that tapers toward the bit, in a prominent Castello shaping cue, this Dublin is dressed in a lovely auburn stain that coaxes forth some truly captivating, tightly knit flame grain. The striations of said grain climb from the heel toward the rim, where a handsome natural plateau provides plenty of texture, visual appeal and contrast. This well-aged Dublin presents a seamless, elegant profile and is certain to appeal to collectors of large, sleek briars.-Angela Robertson
