The dual finish on this Castello bent Apple serves to accentuate the form's sinuous shaping: The bowl wears the concise sandblast of the Italian marque's Old Antiquari line, revealing stacked ring grain across the bowl, but the transition and shank bear a smooth, lighter stain, drawing attention to the stretched, curving nature of the transition. Such a finish is well positioned, too, offering a silky smooth surface across which to drape a thumb. The bent stem balances the form well, though, for hands-free smoking, and the compact, lightweight size makes this an ideally practical pipe that doesn't lack in aesthetic appeal.
