Castello: Collection Great Line Bent Dublin (1982)
Product Number: 002-386-4417
While this piece was not made in 1982, the briar block that it was crafted from was selected at that time, left to cure and age in the nearly 40 years that have elapsed since, marking a rare, highly collectible piece in a larger, more robust size. It makes sense, then, why this bent Dublin from Castello is so lovingly rendered, with a palm-filling bowl that boasts over two inches of tobacco chamber. The profile-dominating bowl has an oval shape, a playful variation on the Dublin, while still maintaining the gentle taper often associated with the design through the sweeping, muscular heel. Coming out of the transition, the shank tapers slightly towards its face, narrowing a bit, before meeting the black acrylic stem as it makes an elegant downward arc, creating lithe lines that balance the stoic stature of the bowl. Dressed in a chestnut stain, the gorgeous grain patterns are deepened and accentuated, as flame grain cascades up the bowl on all side and birdseye adorns the rim and heel.--Davin Hylton
