Castello: Aristocratica Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-386-4540
Castello's Aristocratica line was originally a limited production series that ran from 1968-1979, when workshop founder Carlo Scotti fashioned a number of special pieces to give to close friends. This bowl-centric, new Billiard is part of that exclusive line, with a notable difference: Most of the Aristocratica pipes present a "fumed" or smoky rim; this piece displays that smoldering finish along the heel, transition and shank, marking a rare occurrence. It's contrasted against a vibrant, auburn stain for a look that is, indeed, sophisticated and refined. Shape-wise, this piece follows Italian neoclassic shaping cues, the muscular, rounded bowl taking on Pot-like proportions and offering an impressive breadth of chamber. The rim is crowned in craggy plateau, lending a bit of textural diversity, while the shank and stem elegantly taper toward the bit. A sure Sitter, this is quite the novel piece from one of Italy's most respected marques.
