Castello: Collection Fiammata Great Line Bent Dublin (1982) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-386-4568
Castello is known for aging their briar for a decade before fashioning them, which is one of the many reasons the Italian workshop has so many devotees. The 1982 Collection Great Line is composed of briar blocks set aside that year to age and cure even further, making this pipe all the more rare.
A striking piece that shows off Castello's shaping and finishing panache, this bold, bent Dublin boasts more than two inches of chamber depth within its subtly flaring bowl. Crowned in craggy plateau with a sweeping heel below, it's set to a more sleek and sinuous S-curve, the stem turned down slightly to afford a comfortable smoking posture. With plenty of room at the transition to drape a thumb and a natural, conforming fit in hand, this Fiammata shows off simply stunning licks of dense flame grain, the tendrils rising from heel to rim beneath one of the workshop's honey-blonde stains. The artisans at Castello have clearly demonstrated a keen eye for shaping this briar so that it best highlights the grain.-Angela Robertson
