Combining leanness and muscularity, Castello presents a lightly bent Billiard in this dramatization of the classic English shape. The tall, stout bowl displays a firm heel and full-bodied presence in hand, with a very subtle, Dublin-like flare to the rim, while the sleek, oval shank and slightly bent stem taper toward the bit, the soft ridgelines on either side lending extra structural appeal. Streamlined and ever so slightly curved, the comparatively slender shank-and-stem combination trails behind the larger bowl, the proportions indicative of the Italian school of pipe making. Striking in profile, this Collection piece is dressed in a warm, chestnut stain, showcasing the gorgeous freckles of birdseye beneath, certainly earning Castello's prestigious Occhio di Pernice designation given to pipes with over-the-top birdseye.
