Castello: 'Castello' Dublin with Boxwood Stem (with Extra Stem) (06.30) Tobacco Pipe

Since their founding in 1947, Castello has become one of the most influential and important workshops in all of Italy, their shaping style informing that of others from all around the country. In the Summer of 2021, our fearless leader Sykes Wilford was afforded the opportunity to work with Castello while visiting them, collaborating with Franco Coppo to bring us a limited edition line of boxwood stem-fitted Billiards. Throughout our time carrying Castello, these pieces have been the only new pipes from them to grace our site that are accented in any way with boxwood, making the line both special and exclusive. In 2022, we see the triumphant return of the series, this time comprising a singular straight Dublin shape, and numbering 30 examples total.

Though measuring in at over six inches long, this pipe is quite lightweight, making it rather handy overall and contributing to its sleek, slender aft side. A low-lying transition pushes forth a rather trim shank, its end affixed with a black acrylic military mount that allows for easy removal of the stem, even while the pipe is still hot. Speaking of the stem, this pipe comes with an extra one of matching black acrylic, giving you the freedom to choose between it and the boxwood one, extending the life of both of them and ensuring that you're comfortable as you smoke. The entire gracile length of the shank and stem combination serves to reinforce the presence of the bowl, its walls standing atop a firm heel and flaring in a way that, while subtle, invariably draws the eye. Crowning the rim is a crisp rustication to emulate natural plateau, adding a touch of organic styling to this pipe, while the stummel is finished in the vibrant auburn stain of the workshop's eponymous finish, revealing swirling birdseye on either flank of the bowl that's framed by a wrapping band of cross grain.
