Castello: Castello 7 Day Pipe Set (with Leather Box) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-386-5188
Seven-day sets from Italian workshop Castello are by no means ultra-rare, but they certainly don't crop up very often, and especially not in this configuration, which comprises solely the famed "55" bent Pot shape across seven utterly distinct finishes. The shape itself is one that's written itself into the collective consciousness of pipe smokers since its inception, and has long been a favorite of aficionados who enjoy hearty pipes and neoclassical Italian styling. The most instantly recognizable element of the shape is its characteristic chin-like heel, which juts out at the fore to great effect, lending the composition a striking stance and a good deal of dynamism. The bowl is universally full-bodied, and the stem is demurely curved, continuing a taper that starts in the shank after the transition. Each of the finishes here corresponds to one of the seven days of the week as follows:
- Lunedì (Monday) — Old Sea Rock rustication, complete with a fumed rim and warm auburn stain
- Martedì (Tuesday) — "Pi" series partial Sea Rock rustication, which rusticates part of the bowl, while the rest is striated with six lines of smooth briar
- Mercoledì (Wednesday) — "Pi" series partial Sea Rock rustication and paneled bowl, each of the four main facets being finished smooth and surrounded by dark texture
- Giovedì (Thursday) — "Castello" partial rustication, with most of the shank and the underside being darkly rusticated, while the rest of the stummel is lightly stained
- Venerdì (Friday) — Collection smooth finish in a light honey hue paired to a white stem
- Sabato (Saturday) — Aristocratica finish with fumed rim and plateau
- Domenica (Sunday) — Le Dune carved finish, with the wavy surface of the stummel striated by further carving
A set of iconic pieces from one of Italy's most highly regarded workshops, this seven-day set is sure to please even the most discerning of collectors. It's very seldom that one comes across an entire collection of a singular shape in one box, and the desirability of this specific shape ensures that it won't last long, so the only remaining question is: Why wait?
