Founded by Carlo Scotti in 1947, Castello is recognized by some enthusiasts for being one of the first Italian brands to separate from the conventional English and French shaping standards. All of their pipes are individually shaped by a small team of artisans who focus on quality in both form and function. This Billiard is a reserved piece from the workshop that pairs a tall, upright bowl to a lean, arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement. Though this piece is well-balanced in terms of proportions, making it an outlier for the Italian firm, the bowl is slightly firmer than the traditional Billiard, resting atop a slightly pronounced heel. The stummel wears the workshop's craggy rustication of the Sea Rock finish, offering plenty of tactile detail for the fingers to explore.
