Castello: 'Castello' Apple (KK) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-386-5900
The name Castello, "castle" in Italian, is meant to evoke an aura of pleasant fantasy. Founded by Carlo Scotti in 1947, Castello became a trendsetting marque, being among the first Italian brands to market luxury, hand-made pipes and helping to set the bowl-centric and whimsical standards typical of Italian neoclassicism. This Apple from Castello is a petite pipe with a shallow bowl perfect for a shorter smoke. The addition of a white acrylic accent to the shank's aft paired with a white stem add a touch of neoclassic playfulness to an otherwise rather traditional Apple. Being a push-style mouthpiece makes the base of this pipe's stem significantly narrower than it would be had the stem's face matched the circumference of the shank's. The mount at the shank end being of the same color and material as the stem evokes the appearance of a saddle stem at first, making the shank appear shorter than it actually is and thereby lending the squat bowl an appearance of more height than it actually has. The bowl being wider than it is tall makes for a plethora of heel space for the pipe to rest upright upon without assistance. Stained a warm chestnut hue, Castello's eponymous smooth finish dresses the stummel, highlighting attractive grain throughout.
