Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Elephant's Foot with Boxwood (CCCC)
Product Number: 002-400-1732
A bit of a change of pace, here. Claudio's familiar take on the Elephant's Foot may sport a profile little different from what we see in this design, yet the way the form has been handled is markedly altered nonetheless. The big change is in paneling: usually Claudio places planes reaching from top to bottom of either flank, resulting in the forward and rear faces also being presented as panels of a sort, albeit broadly curved ones. In this pipe's case however a single plane suffices - and it is placed right up front, running from the pointed heel to the rim, and leaving the rest of the bowl, its flanks and rear face, softly contoured. That in turn is followed by a slightly finer, slightly longer transition than usual, complementing the overall softer bowl-form. As an aside, I should also note that this change in design results in a pipe that's a fine sitter, balancing neatly with the stem held high.
