Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Bent Dublin with Tamarind (CCCC)
Product Number: 002-400-2148
Though fairly conservative shape-wise, and essentially an Italian neoclassic take on the straight Dublin, this piece from Cavicchi still sports its share of playfulness. Claudio's lent the rim a slight bit of asymmetrical undulation, for example — offering a neat contrast to the sharp taper of the bowl and the more streamlined nature of the shank and stem. What's more, he's chosen a broad piece of Tamarind for the fitment, showcasing the medium's striking, distressed grain, while still complementing the warm stain of the stummel itself. As you might expect from a "CCCC" grade briar, it also happens to feature a generous helping of flame grain, with subtle growth rings climbing in waves beneath the surface.- Andrew Wike
