Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Bent Dublin (CCCCC)
Product Number: 002-400-2156
Five "C" stamps mark the top of Claudio Cavicchi's "C" graded pipes, after which there's only the very rare "Perla" and crazy-rare "Diamante" grades. With even Claudio's standard smooth-finished pipes typically showing beautiful grain, as you progress up the "C"s things tend to become more about a minimum of those tiny, natural flaws briar always possess somewhere in its structure. The light blonde stain Claudio reserves for these pipes plays its part by being a finish that leaves such flaws more obvious than a darker stain would, and as a consequence also makes their absence more obvious as well. This striking bent Dublin is more than deserving of the prestigious five "C" stamps it received as it features an immaculate display of cross grain along its flanks with birdseye positioned along the fore and aft. The shape's slanted rim and protruding spur directly underneath the transition are playful, yet subtle touches that further demonstrate Claudio's immense skill.- Andrew Wike
