Claudio Cavicchi: Brown Sandblasted Cherrywood
Product Number: 002-400-2298
While Claudio Cavicchi's smooth finishes, particularly the warm, blonde stain he uses on his "C" graded pieces, might receive the most attention, the Italian artisan is extremely talented in the sandblasting cabinet. This sure-sitting Cherrywood is a great example of Cavicchi's technique, resulting in a dense, tight-knit display of rippling ring grain covering the entire bowl while the broad, flat rim is left smooth to match the shank end. It fits in well with the Italian carver's penchant for muscular designs and like all of Claudio's pipes, it has clearly been shaped with the briar's grain orientation in mind. The terracotta-stained sandblast makes the grain even more visually mesmerizing while the stem's downturn balances the bowl's subtle forward cant and provides a comfortable, hands-free smoking posture.- Andrew Wike
