Claudio Cavicchi: Brown Smooth Bent Dublin with Silver
Product Number: 002-400-2314
This Dublin may not bear any of Claudio Cavicchi's prestigious "C" stamps, but that omission is really more of a statement about the meticulousness of his grading system than the quality of the piece itself. The grain here is simply fabulous and would make most artisan pipe makers extremely envious, but that's what sets Cavicchi apart from other carvers. Claudio is immensely talented at reading the grain orientation of each briar block, shaping it in such a way that the grain's potential is maximized. This offering features a forward-urging, deep-chambered bowl up front that is undoubtedly the focal point of the entire composition. Perfectly oriented streaks of cross grain adorn the bowl's flanks, framing birdseye along the fore and aft. It's then brilliantly paired to a bright band of sterling silver wrapped around the base of the gently downturned stem — an accent we don't commonly see from Cavicchi but one that acts as the perfect complement to the superlative grain on display.- Jeffery Sitts
