Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Bent Brandy (CCC)

Product Number: 002-400-2560

Claudio Cavicchi is my personal favorite Italian artisan, his talent for shaping matched only by his ability to coax the most stunning grain out of every piece that he makes. This "CCC" graded bent Brandy is the talented Bologna based carver's newest take on the shape, and I must say that it's one of my favorites of his, exuding a palpable softness from every viewing angle. The willowy length of black acrylic that is the stem is married to a trim, slender shank that transitions gently into a supple bowl, tapering, as Brandies do, to the rim. The underside of the bowl is rounded and features a lifted heel, the sides growing into the low-set waistline of the bowl and following the line of the heel, giving it a floating kind of grace. I think that's one of the best ways I can describe this piece: graceful, and doubtless it is, as every line of this pipe flows and ebbs along with a gentle fluidity, all of which are enhanced by Cavicchi's singular honeyed finish. The blonde stain reveals a stunning straight grain halo that completely encircles the body of the bowl, while the rim is crowned with understated birdseye, the underside shrouded in a swathe of the same swirling grain pattern.
