A more modestly-sized piece compared to many of its Italian brethren, this Volcano from Claudio Cavicchi offers a forward-ebbing bowl from a slightly angled heel, lending the piece a dynamic disposition. Out back, the arching, round shank and gently downturned stem offer a counterbalance to the bowl for a sleek, shapely profile reminiscent of a Cherrywood. The Italian artisan has dressed this piece in his black sandblast, providing a wonderful compliment to the black stem, with his accent standing out quite proudly among the more subdued palette. The textural surface of this piece reveals a stunning ring grain pattern that follows the forward urge of the bowl, the tight, densely-packed undulations striated by flickerings of visual flame grain.
