A large, smooth, bent Billiard from the inimitable Claudio Cavicchi, this saddle-stemmed pipe offers excellent proportions and thoroughly neoclassical styling. The bowl is almost Acorn-like, that impression manifested by the spurred heel and slight taper to the rim, with the heel descending to a fairly sharp point before the aft lifts into the shank. The rich brown stain illuminates the flame grain around the bowl, rising to a slightly undulating rim. There's a low center of gravity to this pipe, and the agile angle of the shank leading to the soft curvature of the mouthpiece promises good balance even when perched in the teeth. The shank itself is rather sleek, and the transition rises to nearly half the height of the bowl, providing a substantial presence in profile. Claudio continues to astound us with his impressive compositions, and this bold Billiard supports that impression.
