Claudio Cavicchi: Black Sandblasted Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-400-2751
When one thinks of Claudio Cavicchi pipes, a few things come to mind. The Italian artisan's eye for shaping briar to best show off its grain is legendary, as are his honey-blonde, smooth finishes on which the Italian carver uses his "C" grading system. His black sandblasts also garner attention, as Cavicchi uses a ruby-toned stain as an undercoat, which can be seen peeping through the much darker black, as is the case with this bent Dublin. The bowl exhibits the traditional flare toward the rim, which is smoothly rendered and ruby stained as is a trim ring at the shank end, complementing the sandblast. The visual weight remains with the bowl, as the upwardly curling shank-and-stem arrangement is slender and sweeping. The grain on this piece is quite compelling: Handsome birdseye populates the rim, while tight-knit growth rings accentuates the bowl.-Angela Robertson
