Claudio Cavicchi: Brown Smooth Bent Apple with Olivewood Tobacco Pipe

Claudio Cavicchi has been carving pipes for more than 40 years and brings that expert craftsmanship to bear in this hearty, bulbous bent Apple. This piece displays a good deal of organicism and hints at Danish design cues, from the shaping of the bowl with its forward cant, lifted heel, and supple curves to the softened lines of the form. The rim, too, is high-set, its design bringing to mind that of the Acorn shape. Housing plenty of chamber capacity, the bowl is paired to a gently bent shank and stem, with a dome-like band of olivewood at the shank end mirroring the same shape along the stem base. The hardwood accent's intriguing grain patterns and ink-on-sand coloration further commends this piece, while the stummel is wearing a warm mahogany stain with contrast, showcasing a wealth of wispy flame grain.
