Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Cherrywood (CCCC) Tobacco Pipe

While Cavicchi is no stranger to the Cherrywood shape, this rendition is rather unique, even for the whimsical Italian artisan. The bowl here is stout and softly rounded, and it stands sturdily atop a flat, slightly slanted heel. The uniqueness of the shape comes in the form of the flared, mushroom-like rim that hangs over the bowl and really captures the eye when viewing the composition in profile. The sinuously bent shank-and-stem arrangement offers a relaxed smoking posture and adds a touch of fluidity to the composition without distracting from the visually dominant bowl. It's all presented in one of Cavicchi's honey-hued smooth finishes, which nicely highlights the streaking flame grain across the flanks of the bowl.
