A robust and straightforward saddle-stemmed Pot such as this example, when crafted by the hands of an artisan like Claudio Cavicchi, finds itself exuding elegance as well as muscularity. This piece projects Italian neoclassical proportions with a large bowl of firm stature, its heel prominent and its bowl wide. Here the compact shape has been finished in one of Cavicchi's signature honey-blonde stains, contrasting vividly against the jet black of the saddle stem. The grain, as on most Cavicchi pipes is superior, with the entire bowl surrounded by dense striations of flickering flame grain, while the rim and underside are peppered with swirling pinpricks of birdseye, earning Claudio's coveted four "C" grade.
