A charming, stylish bit of Italian craftsmanship from Claudio Cavicchi, this piece features a tall bowl that flares from its narrow heel to its broad rim. The slender, arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement keeps most of the composition's visual weight anchored at the bowl, a common shaping cue in Italian briars. The shank is extended by two knuckles of warm bamboo, which immediately brighten the pipe in profile and provide a touch of organic character to the overall design. Cavicchi's rugged Brown sandblast dresses the briar and coaxes out rippling waves of growth rings across the flanks of the bowl.
