Claudio Cavicchi: Black Sandblasted Apple with Olivewood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-400-3082
A rather novel interpretation of the Apple, this piece from Italian artisan Claudio Cavicchi stays true to his style of neoclassical shaping, with a plump, robust bowl situated at the forefront of the composition. Rather compact at under five and a half inches long, this piece features a wide transition that leaves plenty of room to drape a digit, marking the start of a flaring shank that expands into an end adorned with a similarly flared fitment of swirling olivewood. A sleek saddle stem is the married to the stummel, its stylized base creating an area of negative space at the junction which pulls some of the visual weight away from the bowl, though said bowl still takes center stage. This bowl is broader than it is tall, with a sweeping heel that rises to a low-set waist, its walls tapering to an undulating rim stained a vibrant ruby hue, contrasting the inky sandblast dressing the rest of the stummel.
