According to our archives, we have only had a handful of bent balls from Claudio Cavicchi, and when the rare shape does appear, it is often highly stylized like this plump rendition. This is an abbreviated take on the design, encroaching on Nosewarmer territory at just over 5 inches in length, with a round, plump bowl mounted on a short curve of shank with a flattened, Cavalier-like foot at the bottom. Cavicchi's warm auburn stain and crisp, sandblasted finish accentuate rippling ring grain, an aesthetic contrasted by the briar expansion ring at the stem base, the nomenclature panel, and foot, all of which are finished smooth. This lively offering could be the perfect choice for those who want an Italian neoclassical take on the form with the added benefit of being an excellent jaw hanger in relatively compact proportions.
