Claudio Cavicchi is an expert at shaping pipes, something he's proven time and time again throughout his more than 40 years as a craftsman, and continues to prove today, as this bent Apple is possessed of a classically inspired profile, shaped fantastically. The stummel fits wonderfully in the hand, the bulbous bowl filling space well in any preferred handling. The bowl rests on a sinuously curved heel that defines the silhouette throughout the underside, which, considering the bent stem, is a lithe recurve. The transition is nigh flawless and the abbreviated shank meets a jet-black acrylic stem that complements the finish of the stummel. On the subject of the stummel dressing, the smooth chestnut stain showcases a lovely flame grain crown around the bowl and a densely packed spattering of birdseye on the underside.
