Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Bent Dublin Sitter (CCCC) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-400-3197
Claudio Cavicchi is truly a master of his craft, and his ability to coax the best possible grain out of every piece of briar will always astound me. His over 50 years of experience ensures that his pipes are not only beautiful, but expertly shaped and precisely drilled, and all of these are the case with this bent Dublin sitter. Yes, this piece sits and sits quite stably, the silhouette looking similar to a Cherrywood, as the transition is quite low-set, arcing upward out of the flaring cylindrical bowl, its dipped, parabolic configuration providing a lovely place to drape a thumb. The fluidly curved stem is poised for comfortable smoking, and the slight forward tilt to the bowl gives the pipe a palpable momentum, with the forward-slanting rim displaying a vast crown of plateau. A recipient of four of Cavicchi's "C" stamps, this bent Dublin presents beautiful flame grain around the entirety of the bowl, with visible growth rings undulating through the striations, all underneath Claudio's singular honeyed stain.-John McElheny
