Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Volcano with Spalted Beechwood (CCCC) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-400-3286
When it comes to grain orientation, few pipes show it better than Claudio Cavicchi's C-graded pieces, and the carver is among the best at shaping pipes that maximize the briar's inherent grain potential. Furthermore, he's also among the most consistent pipe makers in regards to engineering and quality craftsmanship, and every pipe that leaves his workshop lives up to the Italian carver's strict standards. Claudio is immensely proud of his pipes, and he prioritizes perfection. This Volcano lives up to that pride, revealing a tall, conical bowl on which streak strands of beautiful flame grain. Compared to the archetypal Volcano design, which typically presents as a sort of Brandy variation, this Cavicchi rendition aligns more with Poker sensibilities — the transition raised and disparate from the defined, rounded, plateau-capped heel. The bowl's presence dominates the profile, a common cue in Italian pipe making, and that aspect is reinforced by the shank's taper toward the transition. Opposite, it's accented by a domed section of spalted beechwood, aligning with the shaping of the acrylic stem's base. Such shaping incorporates the stem into the overall composition, making for a cohesive work of art, all dressed in Claudio's gorgeous, honey-blonde stain.
