Claudio Cavicchi: Brown Smooth Acorn Tobacco Pipe

Claudio Cavicchi is truly a master of his craft, and his ability to coax the best possible grain out of every piece of briar will always astound me. His over 50 years of experience ensures that his pipes are not only beautiful, but expertly shaped and precisely drilled. This Acorn is a handsome piece from Cavicchi, being a fairly sleek, upright rendition of the modern classic shape that stays true to his Neoclassical shaping style. The bowl stands on a firm, muscular heel and flares out smartly toward a high-set waist, one whose apex is marked by a thorough rounding and ample rotundity. Said bowl is further highlighted by its compression at the flanks, forming it into a broad oval and making for a unique look from the smoker's perspective. The transition is wide, and it gives way to an extended, similarly ovoid shank that tapers very subtly before it meets a sleek saddle stem of black acrylic. Dressed in one of Cavicchi's warm, walnut-toned stains, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout, with dense flame wrapping the bowl and lining the shank while fields of birdseye preside over the rim and underside.
