Claudio Cavicchi: Smooth Freehand (Perla) Tobacco Pipe

Claudio Cavicchi is a skilled pipe maker with over 50 years of experience, known for his remarkable ability to highlight the intricate grain of each block of briar and transform it into stunning pieces. Such skillful craftsmanship can be seen in Freehand — dressed in the workshops' warm Perla finish, the stummel displays fine tendrils of flame grain rising along the bowl's flanks, reaching a dense sea of birdseye along the rim and upper portion of the shank. Shape-wise, this piece is reminiscent of an Acorn, with a spur-like accent underneath the transition. Making this piece unique, though, is a crisp facet that informs the aft of the bowl and the transition. Juxtaposing supple curves and crisp linework, the bowl creates an intriguing, geometric feel in the hand. Completing the profile is an upturned, round shank and demurely curved saddle stem of black acrylic, the pair promoting a comfortable smoking posture.
