Jess Chonowitsch: Partially Sandblasted Acorn Tobacco Pipe

Most pipemakers offer some sandblasts with smooth rims and matching, smooth shank terminations. However, no one performs the feat like Jess Chonowitsch. For the rim, Jess followed the top of a concentric groove of growth ring and maintained that natural demarcation, resulting in an absolutely natural aspect rather than a stark contrast. Without that same natural, concentric line to follow for the shank end, Jess still made it natural with a visually seamless transition. The burgundy-and-black works wonderfully here, with burgundy subtly revealing itself under the stain of the bowl. Perfect balance, of course, makes the pipe a magic trick in the hands. The stemwork is as impressive as the shaping and finishing of the stummel. Breathtaking.
