A more organic rendition than the usual from Jess Chonowitsch, this smooth Sailor offers a natural aesthetic, with its bulbous bowl terminating at the rim with plateau and at the shank in an elegantly-shaped horn mount. The curve at the underside in silhouette is as precise as a technical drawing, and the transition from bowl to shank at the top is a more shallow curve that maintains the roundness of the bowl. The entire piece is adorned with some fabulous flame, melding seamlessly to the plateau crown, all highlighted in a warm contrast stain. This pipe is remarkable in the hand. Its smoothness and shapeliness are irresistible to wandering fingers, especially as they slide up to the top and encounter the rough plateau. A relatively compact pipe, it displays all the detail one would expect from Jess.
