Jess Chonowitsch: Sandblasted Pot with Bamboo

Product Number: 002-367-0098

Classically Jess Chonowitsch, the sandblasted pot with bamboo and saddle stem is well known, and easily recognizable. This piece is light and elegant, with rounded, ruby-stained, smooth-polished rim and concentric stacks of grain climbing the bowl. Three knuckles of pale bamboo define the shank, with the natural indentations of the bamboo carried into the vulcanite. The heel is broad and perfectly curved, an essential detail, and hard to accomplish on a bowl with such abbreviated height. Everything about this piece implies a simple comfort pipe, lightweight enough to perch in the teeth effortlessly, and an excellent example of what a relatively small block of briar can accomplish in the right hands.
