Jess Chonowitsch: Smooth Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-367-0116
Compared to his Billiard and Pot renditions, the Dublin isn't a shape that Jess Chonowitsch visits often. That said, when he does, the Danish master never disappoints, and it fits into his penchant for blending the Danish aesthetic with classic English shapes. This particular one very much resembles his Lovat designs — the elongated shank imbued with Chonowitsch's typical use of muscularity, accentuated further by the trim saddle stem. The bowl though trades the carver's Danish-style taper for the Dublin's characteristic flare, while still keeping the rim gently inflated for that same, soft aesthetic associated with the Danish tradition. It's a beautifully balanced piece: The angle of the heel perfectly matching that of the transition to keep the use of negative space consistent. Overall, this piece is reminiscent of a previous Dublin from Jess, albeit a bit smaller and showcases a vibrant flame grain orientation as opposed to the other's cross cut pattern.
