Jess Chonowitsch: Sandblasted Bent Brandy
Product Number: 002-367-0128
Nobody does a bent Brandy like Jess Chonowitsch. (But, nobody makes a pipe like Jess Chonowitsch. He's incomparable.) His eye has somehow calibrated to pipe proportions so expertly that one fails to identify any defect. This piece is compact, just over four inches long, but it houses design cues that belie its size. The blast is remarkable, maintaining a low profile that helps maintain the generous proportions of the shape and the soft curves from which it is comprised, while still providing excellent tactile characteristics that will occupy any wandering fingers during a smoke. The rim is smooth and of a ruby red hue, as is customary for Jess's dark-stained sandblasts, and itself is softly curved, in Danish tradition, all around the circumference of the tobacco chamber. The transition is soft as well, maintaining the broad curves of the aesthetic and leading to a robustly muscular shank that curves upward and gently tapers down to the saddle mouthpiece. It could be a pocket pipe, though I'd hate to drop it out of a shirt pocket into a pool of piranhas, because I'd go in after it, and heaven help any ignorant piranha that tried to interfere.- Chuck Stanion
