Jess Chonowitsch: Smooth Tomato with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-367-0013

The Tomato shape could almost include in its definition: rarely has good grain. The shape makes it impossible to render interesting grain. It's a bulbous thing with no flat surfaces, how can there be good grain? But wouldn't you know it, here's the exception, and it's no surprise it was crafted by the incomparable Jess Chonowitsch. And it's not just good grain, it's sensational grain. Briar, bamboo and vulcanite join to make one cohesive, stunningly appointed pipe. Straight- and flame-grain, loads of birdseye, a moderately chamfered inner rim, three knuckles of exceptional bamboo, and Chonowitschian attention to detail for the stemwork all combine for a knock-your-sneakers-off-and-into-1590s-era-Machu-Picchu presentation.
