With a body of work as replete with organic, whimsical numbers as Chris Asteriou's it's always a treat to see a classic shape rendition from the carver. And it hardly gets more classic than this, an unassuming (though muscular) bent Billiard, with a playful sense of curvature that, to my eye, evokes the look of a particularly muscular Dunhill LC. The shank is somewhat flattened, throwing more focus to the pronounced bowl in profile, where the eye is free to look upon some delightfully craggy, diagonally-oriented blasted ring-grain on each flank, accentuated by a vibrant, smoky crimson contrast finish. A charming piece from Chris here.
