Chris Asteriou: Sandblasted Billiard (109/17)
Product Number: 002-540-0086
A slenderized cross-grain sandblasted Billiard, this piece from Chris Asteriou provides coloring similar to Dunhill's Cumberlands. The transition from bowl to shank seems to be the most difficult part of a pipe for a carver to render, but Asteriou demonstrates his skills here, with the curvature of the bowl perfectly maintained and executed. There's a pronounced delicacy to this piece, perhaps because of the slender shank and gracefully tapered stem. The curvature of the bowl is a study in accuracy, and the lip button so carefully shaped that I suspect it took as much time as any other aspect. Everything about this pipe telegraphs an impression of sophistication and precision, and all in a classic package by one the of world's premier carvers.- Chuck Stanion
