Chris Asteriou: Smooth Belge with Silver (104/18) Tobacco Pipe

My favorite piece from this particular set of Chris Asteriou pipes, this Belge is one that shows off his ability with classic shapes quite nicely. The sleek, trim shank and stem give it a streamlined profile, further enhanced by his crisp use of sterling silver at both shank end and tenon, which allow for a slight step in profile. At the fore, the bowl is as softly-rounded as one might hope for the classic shape, with perhaps a bit less forward cant than we might see from another maker — though that isn't a bad thing in this case. It gives the bowl a more "perched" appearance, its cross-grain center stage to the piece, all dressed in a vibrant contrast. Neat work, and perfect for those who appreciate this style of ultra-minimalist shape.
