Chris Asteriou: Sandblasted Cutty with Moose Antler Spigot (16/19) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-540-0114

We've seen numerous Cutty renditions from Chris Asteriou, and while this one displays that same forward canted, bulbous bowl up front, it's markedly distinct from past renditions we've received from the Greek carver. Previously, Chris has rendered the heel spur to a crisp point, much like his Strawberry and Acorn iterations; however, here the form caters more toward the classic clay pipes of yesteryear, the foot being flattened at the bottom rather than sharply pointed.

Making this piece all the more unique, Asteriou has ambitiously fitted it with a spigot mount, not made of sterling silver as is typical, but from cream-hued moose antler. The construction boasts deft craftsmanship as Chris has attached the antler both around the shank end and the vulcanite stem, the tenon extending past the organic material for a better grip when fitted in the mortise. Sparing no detail, the antler is delicately carved with reserved rings at the end, adding a subtle yet elegant aesthetic. It's a beautiful combination of classic shaping and modern, innovative use of alternate materials, all dressed in a warm, chestnut stain and one of Chris's expert sandblasts. It also makes for the perfect mate to the Billiard also seen in today's batch of Asteriou pipes, the antler spigot traded out for one of dark horn.
