Chris Asteriou: Sandblasted Billiard with Brass (25/20) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-540-0140
Many of the Billiards we've seen from Chris Asteriou in the past have primarily been influenced by English and French pipe making styles, often favoring sleek, slender proportions. This particular example leans more into Chris' Danish influences, specifically the work of master artisan Jess Chonowitsch. This sandblasted offering is a conveniently sized rendition, measuring five inches in length and is rife with elegance and soft lines. The bowl displays a subtle taper from its plump base toward the rim, aligning well with the conventional Danish approach to the shape. The rim is gently rounded and smooth, as is most often seen with Jess' sandblasted pipes, adding a bit of color contrast as well as a textural juxtaposition against the low-profile sandblast. Even though the sandblast is rather light in terms of its depth, there's still an abundance of undulating grain cascading down the bowl's flanks while the undertones of the stain match well with the rim's coloration. Perhaps most visually striking is the brass mount that adorns the shank end, adding brightness to the composition's color palette and demonstrating Asteriou's skillful work with accenting materials.
