Chris Asteriou: Sandblasted Billiard with Silver Tobacco Pipe

Chris Asteriou is a talented Greek pipe artisan whose creative range runs the gamut from classic shape-chart renditions to organic, Danish-inspired designs. This large straight Billiard is a fine example of the former, striking a pose with an upright bowl and a muscular shank and stem, but also hints at the second, displaying cheeking at the transition and a very Danish taper toward the rim.
It's wearing a crisp tanblasted finish that perfectly accentuates fine cross grain, with tight striations bedecking the flanks and blasted birdseye fore and aft. With plenty for fingertips to explore, Chris amped up the visual variety with a broad silver band at the shank end, providing a dash of elegance and a pleasant visual break to set off the jet-black tapered stem. For anyone looking for an exemplary straight Billiard, who is also a fan of larger pipes, this one deserves serious consideration.
