Chris Asteriou: Smooth Dublin with Bamboo and Tagua Nut Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-540-0162

A talented artisan pipe maker from Greece, Chris Asteriou draws on a background in industrial design and architecture to execute a personal style of precision and creative interpretation of classic shapes. This bent Dublin is all of that, and more, with a widely flaring bowl that rises from a flattened heel to a broad, domed rim crowned by kisses of plateau. He has found a premium block of briar here, and shaped perfectly to it, the bowl's crisp sides illuminating beautiful flame grain that is nothing less than straight grain in many places.

The briar's beauty is made resplendent by a smooth finish and handsome contrast stain, and the clean lines of the bowl are paired to an organic composition of shank, the latter boasting an undulating extension of bamboo capped by tagua nut at the stem junction. The vulcanite saddle stem begins with an asymmetric expansion ring, evocative of the ridgeline that wraps the bowl just beneath the rim, and reduces quickly as it curls subtly downward to a svelte lip button.
