Clark Layton: Sandblasted Horn
Product Number: 002-781-0028
In his Acorn, Blowfish, and Dublin renditions, Clark Layton often leans into the Danish school, while still employing his typical, American Industrial-style of robust muscularity through the shank and transition. However, we've never before, until now, seen a take on the Danish Horn from the American carver. It's undeniably Layton, though, the Danish sense of curve and consistent flare evident yet maintaining Clark's aforementioned hearty proportions. In profile, the shape exudes flowing momentum and elegance as the piece gradually flares from the button, through the transition, and into the bowl, the stem lent the slightest degree of downward turn to hint at the Zulu/Yachtsman design. From above, though, the shape takes on a much more broadly-splayed disposition: The shank remains almost as broad as the bowl, its wide-set robustness contrasting the silhouette's dynamic momentum. It's all dressed conservatively in a dark, glossy color palette and boasts one of Layton's gorgeously textured sandblasts.-Truett Smith
