Clark Layton: Sandblasted Billiard

Product Number: 002-781-0030

A veritable English classic, the straight Billiard is a timeless pipe chart standard, and I'm especially fond of artisan renditions of traditional shapes. Here, Clark Layton offers a spot-on version, the silhouette lending the piece the impression of having been plucked straight from out of an English marque's early-1900s catalog, yet imbued with the meticulous engineering and hands-on, personal touch of an artisan pipe. Though offering a chamber on par with a larger, Group 4 size, it remains comfortably lightweight, sure to prove an easy clencher. Apart from the innermost section of the rim, Layton has dressed the stummel in one of his immaculate sandblasts and stained it a glossy, dark ruby hue. Truly, the sandblast couldn't be better — presenting a craggy texture that's as reminiscent of old-school English briars as the shape itself. Clark's combined it with a modernist touch of color, though, pairing the traditional stain with a cumberland stem of mossy green hues.
