Old German Clay: Markus Fohr Cooper Black Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-557-0025
A cooper is a professional woodworker who specializes in making wooden casks, barrels, troughs, buckets and the like, and here we find such a tradesman at work on the barrel-like bowl of this fine Old German Clay in black by Markus Fohr. Generations of family and personal experience inform the manufacture of Old German Clays, utilizing traditional iron and brass molds that are over 200 years old. These pipes are hand-pressed using the famous clay of the Westerwald region around Montabaur, Germany, where these pipes are made, and is most notably revered for the fine pottery made from that clay. Every pipe collection should have a clay or two, pipes that are particularly efficient for providing a neutral smoking experience. Tobacco blenders use clays for purchasing leaf and testing blends because of that neutral quality, and while we all like the subtle flavor that briar introduces to our tobacco flavor, we sometimes want to experience a blend in its most accurate form, as a clay from Old German Clay Pipes would provide.
Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.
