Cornelius Manz: Smooth Mushroom with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Cornelius Mänz has quite a penchant for taking Danish school influence and fusing it beautifully with Japanese organicism, a result of his stellar eye for design and his serious talent as a craftsman. With this Mushroom shape, we have a gorgeous take on the old Danish form, imbued with subtle touch of naturalesque asymmetry about the bowl, as well as a bit of overt muscularity to the rim's aft, serving to propel the shape forward in profile. The eye is guided steadily to the gently tapering transition and shank, coming to rest briefly at the slightly flaring horn ferrule. Cornelius has access to a decades-old stock of some of the finest horn imaginable, and here, it pairs wonderfully with his especially deft stem work.
