Cornelius Manz: Smooth Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-831-0023
Four knuckles of honey-blonde bamboo travel to meet a slightly elongated transition and a forward-inclined Dublin bowl in this rendition from Cornelius Mänz. Like other pieces we've previously seen from the German carver, it seems to tread the line between streamlined and overtly organic. The implied forward motion of the bowl itself is emphasized by way of a bit of additional muscularity at the domed rim, giving way to the easy distribution of visual weight down below. The piece is balanced beautifully in profile by the bamboo shank extension and delicately downturned saddle bit, and the whole of it is so undeniably light, you might have trouble setting it down.
